One of my personal highlights of the year at PAC is when "Dutchy" brings us staff half a dozen CO-OP BBQ CHICKENS and we all chow down.
What makes it ChickenFEST and not just another meal where one eats chicken you ask?
Simply this: ChickenFEST features only chicken. No veggies, no salad, no potatoes, and no side dish. This is a hard and fast rule. To allow for other food would be to take attention away from the chicken and connoisseurs that we are, we cannot abide this.
We also don't want our palates messed with as we enjoy the chicken so no one really drinks anything either. A few cups of water around the table but nothing to interfere with the taste buds.
It was spartan and it was indulgent all at once.
Oh yes, there will be those who don't "get" the beauty of ChickenFEST (Tamara and Lydia). And there will be some who are confused by it (Proto-Shea went home to change her clothes and then came back and ate chicken?).
But to those of us who can appreciate it - it is a meaningful rich symbol.
