6 years ago - before David Crowder was selling as many albums as he is now - I emailed him. I was most impressed by his musicianship and lyrical depth. I find it hard to engage in much of the worship music I hear but found he had an ability to increase my enjoyment of God and focus my thoughts on God. So I told him as much in an email.
He emailed right back - from his personal email account and not the corporate one I sent my email to.
Since then I have emailed him at this account maybe 12 times. One time, when I suggested he sing a duet with Walter Brueggemann based on Walt's ability to sing "The Rose" during karaoke night at Westminster. Crowder said, and I quote, "this is hands down the funniest email I have ever received." I was glowing. Dave and I had a connection. Not so much fan and star but buddy buddy. When I bought a stove on ebay near his hometown of Waco, Texas I asked him to just take it on tour with him and I'd pick it up when he got to Minneapolis to save myself shipping. Dave and I shared a hearty e-chuckle over that one.
Then a friend (who shall go unnamed) went aHEAD and used this email on my comp to send Crowder a demo of his song. I have emailed Dave a few times since, but have not gotten the same response. I think he is wary and hurt that I would commodify our friendship.
You can see this hurt on his second last album "Remedy". Not as strong in my humble opinon as his others. Clearly reeling from the hurt of me using him, although I tried to explain.
Thankfully, the cloud seems to have lifted and his latest offering is exceptional. More than exceptional - I can't shut it off for the last week.
David, great album, I'll likely email you soon .
